The connections between cosmopolitanism, culture and consumption are often traced back to Ulf Hannerz’s (1990) discussion of “cosmopolitans and locals” and John Urry’s (1995) concept of “aesthetic cosmopolitanism.” This overview article discusses recent developments in the study of cosmopolitanism, with an emphasis on the two major dimensions of culture and politics.
